What is Shockwave Therapy?
ESWT helps stimulate the body’s natural healing process. This treatment releases shockwaves that travel faster than the speed of sound and target a large area of affected tissue. When shockwaves hit your
affected tissue, it causes a micro-trauma which increases blood flow while stimulating an inflammatory response that aids in the healing process.
Dr. Burak uses a compact shockwave system that releases kinetic energy through compressed air-powered strikes to target areas on your body. The shockwaves stimulate osteoblasts, which are the cells responsible for bone healing and new bone production. It also stimulates fibroblasts, the cells responsible for the healing of connective tissues like tendons.
What does the Treatment Feel Like?
After applying gel, Dr. Mike will move the handheld wand over your injured area for a few minutes. For your first treatment, you will start on a low setting. You may have a slight feeling of discomfort, but Dr. Burak will ask how you are feeling throughout the procedure and can adjust the level to your comfort.

This treatment is non-surgical and non-invasive. Shockwave therapy can help relieve your pain in one of two ways. The first, hyperstimulation anesthesia, which causes local nerve endings to be so over-stimulated that their activity decreases, provides you with a short-term reduction in pain. The second is the gate-control mechanism, where nerves are stimulated to recalibrate the perception of pain, which results in long-term pain reduction.

Dr. Burak earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the renowned Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, graduating in February 1996. He has completed extensive continuing education across a wide range of specialties, allowing him to provide well-rounded, comprehensive care. His training includes sports injuries, nutrition, whiplash, lower back pain and biomechanics, intervertebral disc injuries, rehabilitation, and more.
